In technical analysis, just as in fundamental analysis, there are lagging indicators and leading indicators. One of the most reliable tools used to predict forex market swings is Elliott Wave analysis. Elliott Wave analysis can be used to identify trends and countertrends, trend continuation or exhaustion and to evaluate the potential price targets of a trend.
You can apply Elliott Wave analysis to both long and short position swing trade set ups for your currency pairs.
Elliott Wave theory is named after Ralph Nelson Elliott, who concluded that the markets moved in a repetitive pattern of waves. He attributed this action to the mass psychology of the market.
Elliott concluded that the market¡¯s movement was a direct result of the mass psychology of the time and that the stock market is a fractal. A fractal is an object that is similar in shape, but at different scales. A great example of a fractal in nature is a stalk of broccoli. The stalk and the individual branches look exactly the same; just the branches are smaller in scale.
Fractals just happen to form in accordance with Fibonacci ratios. Is this a coincidence?
Elliott attributes this mass psychological move to the human trait of herding. Even though Elliott¡¯s theories were based on stock market price movements, it has been applied to evaluating Presidential approval ratings and fashion trends changes as well.
The conclusion, the market price actions are not the cause of economic growth or slow down, but the reflection of the mass psychology of investors. If the mood of the investing public is upbeat then a bull market ensues. This is counter to what most individual perceive, that because there is a bull market the mood of the investing public is upbeat.
Elliott Wave patterns follow a sequence that the markets move up in a series of 3 waves and down in a series of 2 waves. This 3 wave impulse and 2 wave corrective sequence form the foundation of the 5 Wave impulse pattern (the opposite is true in a downtrend).
The Elliott Wave Counts are as follows;
Wave 1 - Short Covering
Wave 2 - Pullback from Short Covering
Wave 3 - Major Rally Phase
Wave 4 - Institution Pause in the Rally
Wave 5 - Retail Buying
Exchange rates
Basically, the exchange rate represents the rate of exchange between two currencies. Most currencies are traded, or paired up against the dollar. The five most common currencies traded on the market are the dollar (USD), euro (EUR), the yen (JPY), the British pound (GBP), and the Swiss franc (CHF). Some other currencies that are traded are the Australian dollar, the Canadian dollar, and the Hong Kong dollar.
In the exchange rate or ratio, the numerator represents the quote currency and the denominator the base currency, which always equals one.
Let's say that an investor wants to exchange euros for dollars. In this case, the euro currency is the quote currency, or how much currency you have to exchange. The base currency is the dollar. The investor researches the current exchange rate (euros converted into dollars) either on the Internet, through the bank, broker, etc., and then multiplies that amount by the number of euros to exchange. Let's say that the exchange rate is 1.57959. That means that 1.57959 euros must be paid to receive one dollar. If he has 1000 euros to exchange, then he can receive $1,579.59 (1000 x 1.57959).
On the flip side, the exchange rate can also tell the investor how much he'll receive if he converts dollars back into euros. If he has $1000, he can either divide that amount by the same euro to dollar exchange rate ($1000/1.57959 = 633.07 euros), or look up the conversation rate for dollars to euros on the Internet, etc. (i.e. .633072) and multiply it by the amount of dollars to exchange ($1000 x .633072 = 633.07 euros).
Once the exchange rate concept is understood, the investor can feel more confident in investing in the Forex market.

The only funds that should ever be used to speculate in foreign currency trading, or any type of highly speculative investment, are funds that represent risk capital i.e., funds you can afford to lose without affecting your financial situation. There are other reasons why forex trading may or may not be an appropriate investment for you, and they are highlighted below.
The market could move against you
No one can predict with certainty which way exchange rates will go, and the forex market is volatile. Fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate between the time you place the trade and the time you close it out will affect the price of your forex contract and the potential profit and losses relating to it.
You could lose your entire investment
You will be required to deposit an amount of money (often referred to as a security deposit or margin) with your forex dealer in order to buy or sell an off-exchange forex contract. As discussed earlier, a relatively small amount of money can enable you to hold a forex position worth many times the account value. This is referred to as leverage or gearing. The smaller the deposits in relation to the underlying value of the contract, the greater the leverage. If the price moves in an unfavorable direction, high leverage can produce large losses in relation to your initial deposit. In fact, even a small move against your position may result in a large loss, including the loss of your entire deposit. Depending on your agreement with your dealer, you may also be required to pay additional losses.
Overtrading is another ordinary money management mistake in the forex market. This trading does not have clearly defined trading objectives; the sole reason is to make more money. To avoid this mistake, make sure that every trade is broken into ultimate goals, and that these goals are achieved before other positions are added. Very few traders can successfully manage multiple positions in a variety of currency trading markets.
Overconfidence is a big mistake when it comes to money management and the forex market. This is caused when a trader has or thinks they have particular or inside information. These hot tips are sometimes wrong, and when this happens large amounts of money may be lost because of this. The way to avoid this is to avoid being confident in any rumors or special information you may have. Managing your money means taking measures to preserve it as well.
Preferential bias can exist among forex market traders. This happens when they only see or hear what they want in relative to the favored trade. This can cause a trader to ignore the real activity of the forex market in favorite of what they want to happen. It is important to look at each trade impartially and do not become set in cement with your opinion. Do not ask friends or family for their opinions; just go with what you know.
Other big advantage that is always quoted related to the Forex market is the brim requirements. Well, smooth tuck away a pygmy invoice coextensive $300 you can advantage 100, 200 or rolled 400x your wad. You may think this is a great advantage but, in my opinion, this is more a challenge than an advantage. If you have a petite balance and pop to practice a steep side, you can avoid your entire balance in a single trade.
Also, Forex is admitted as the scam market. You have trading systems, courses and common brokers that are constantly rated by traders as scams. In the case of the systems and courses in that they promise a lot of profits stash no elbow grease at all, and in the case of the brokers that donate you all the resources but inasmuch as trade lambaste you, don ' t agreement you withdraw your property or neatly disappear salt away it.

Others certainty the system prime, but next a few bad trades source losing confidence and contract apprehensiveness and attraction genie their decisions. I itch admit - substantial was very insolvable for me to faith a system that was created by someone too many. Solitary when I tacit the logic late the system I began to fashion confidence, traded stow away discipline and somewhere made profits.
Are my expectations fitting my ration?
The size of your trading invoice will halt your lifelike profit expectations. But if you have a one million dollar account, you can definitely earn US$ 1, 000 per pip. So it takes only 3 pips to make US$3, 000 a day. I hope you get the point.

Trading Methods
Foreign currency trading utilizes different types of trading methods which has their own disadvantages and advantages. Perhaps the most popular is the spot currency trading method. This type of trading happens between the buyer and the seller at varied periods of time. There really is no way to figure out when a spot currency trading will occur. But one notable characteristic of this type of trading method is that it requires immediate action with the prices coming up at a later time. Meaning, it is advised that buyers keep their preferred rates until the sellers present theirs first.
Another type of trading method being used and more popular among big businesses is the option trading method. This makes use of a future trading mechanism wherein both parties agree to trade at a specific date or for a specified period of time. However, the option trading strategy only gives the buyers and sellers the right to make the purchase but it does not require them to trade. At any time, they may also choose to drop off from the agreement.

The experiment we are looking at here, is one conducted by Richard Dennis one of the true trading greats. Dennis wanted to prove that anyone could learn to trade, regardless of age, sex or educational background.
He taught a group of people with no trading experience, who ranged from a security guard, to an actor, to a lady auditor, to name just some of the group and taught them to trade in just two weeks. The rest of course is history, as the entire group went on to enjoy Forex trading success and make fortunes.
So what can you learn from them?
There are three facts about the experiment which any trader should make part of their essential Forex trading education and here they are:
1. Simple Systems Work Best
The system was a trend following breakout system which traded long term and was so simple anyone could learn it and it's a fact that simple systems work best as they are very robust in the brutal world of Forex trading.
Complex systems have a tendency to lose, as they have too many elements to break, so you need to keep your system simple too. Their methodology of a long term breakout strategy was an excellent way to trade and still is today.
2. Money Management is the Key
If you want to win at Forex trading, you need to do it just like the great football teams and that means you need to have a tight defence. A top football team will know, if it keeps the score down (restricts losses) its offence will get opportunities to win the game and it won't need many. Most traders think money management is not as important as the trading system itself but it is! If you lose too much, you get wiped out and the game is over.
3. Maintaining Discipline
If you read interviews with the group Dennis taught, most of them indicate that the trading system was easy to learn, the hard part was taking losses and maintaining discipline until profits were hit again.
Like most trading systems, this one had far more losses than profits and it's hard to trade with discipline, as the market takes money from you and makes you look a fool. Discipline is based on confidence and a good education and Dennis made sure, his pupils knew why they would ultimately win and gave them the mindset to succeed.
If you understand the above, you will see that anyone can learn to trade and you only need a simple system but the biggest barrier to trading success is getting a disciplined mindset you need to get the right mindset and this comes from education, confidence and knowing your strengths and weaknesses.
You can enjoy currency trading anyone can, so read more inspiring stories like the one above and get on the road to currency trading success.
Let's first of all start with the equation which relates to how and why markets really move and it's this:
Supply and Demand Fundamentals + Human Perception of them = Price
Simple?
Yes it is but most traders fail to see its signifcance which is:
It's not the facts that are important, its how humans perceive them that is; always remember humans are creatures of emotion and don't conform to some scientific theory which means all the commonly perceived views below about trading Forex are wrong:
- You can predict market movements in advance
- You can trade breaking news and the facts
- Markets move to some mathematical theory
- You can make money from short term moves i.e. scalping or day trading.
Its clear that markets move to probabilities not certainties. So using complex theories or mathematical theories is doomed to failure; its also impossible to work out what millions upon millions of traders will do within a day, as all short term moves are random and breaking news stories and facts cannot be traded, as the facts by themselves not important, its how there perceived that determines what happens next.
So how do you trade online Forex markets and win?
In an odds based market, simple systems works best and you should simply trade the reality of price change on a Forex Chart. Most traders make Forex trading more complicated than it really is. Having a successful trading system though is not enough next, you now need to understand another simple equation to succeed.
A Simple Robust Forex Trading System + Disciplined Execution = Forex Profits
The key to winning long term at Forex is disciplined execution of a system. If you can't execute your trading system signals with discipline, you have no system and don't be deceived, trading with discipline is very hard.
The reason discipline is so hard is you are going to have losing periods ( all traders have them) and you are going to have to keep going while the market takes your money and wrong foots you and makes you feel a fool. When this is happening, you need to keep your losses small and stay on course until you hit a home run and this is hard.
Most traders think they will never lose and believe the rubbish that vendors of "sure fire" systems tell them which is - losing periods don't occur or are very short.
When they hit a period of losses, they simply cannot cope with them and throw in the towel. if you understand that you have to lose to win and can trade with discipline, you can enjoy currency trading success.
Most traders don't really understand how markets really move and lack the mindset to win. Above we have shown you what it takes to win at online Forex trading and the rest is now up to you - good luck!
The reason Forex prices are not predictable is obvious, humans decide the price of any currency and you can't predict what they will do with certainty.
There is a big industry selling Forex robots and gurus selling get rich quick systems, telling you that you can predict prices in advance but common sense tells you this cannot be true - why? Because if you could predict price, everyone would know the price in advance and there would be no market. Prices move because you can't predict them, NOT because you can.
You can make money though!
To make profits you have to calculate and trade the odds successfully.
While you cannot predict human nature with certainty, it is constant and never changes. The emotions of greed and fear are always present and these emotions are reflected in high odds, chart patterns that are tradable for profit.
When you trade Forex, you need to trade like a good poker player, who folds or passes by hands that have low odds and then bets when the odds are in their favour. If you do this and have sound money management, you can make a lot of money.
We all want to be perfect and pick market tops and bottoms in advance but it's simply not possible.
To win at Forex, you need to trade the reality of price change only. Prediction is simply hoping or guessing and you will find your predictions (if you try them) are as accurate as your horoscope.
The best Way to Trade is:
Look at a Forex chart and you will see long trends that last for many weeks or months.
Most of these big trends start and continue from new chart highs or lows. You should therefore trade breaks of important support and resistance levels and follow them, as chances are a big trend will develop. You're NOT predicting, you're trading the reality of price change and increasing your odds of success.
Most traders can't trade breakouts because they think they have missed the start of the move and wait for a pullback to get in. It doesn't come and the trader misses the move.
To build a breakout trading system is easy and will always have the opportunity make money, as markets will always trend.
Simple systems work best in Forex trading and we will show you how to put together a simple, long term, forex trading breakout system, in part 2 of this article series.
Trading the odds and trading long term, is the way to make money and you don't need to predict anything!

You can earn a lot of money through Forex and it in fact only requires that you learn from some tips that will show you how to maximize your profits from dealing in foreign currencies. The simplest Forex tip is to use weekly charts to boost your profitability. This means that you have to take the trouble of checking the weekly charts so as to be able to gain a proper perspective of the currency market.
Such weekly charts are ideal for learning and finding out more about the major trends that are taking place and they will also help you understand the proper support as well as resistance levels as too gains insights about entry points.
Don't Overtrade
Another simple Forex tip is learning to avoid from doing too much trading. It pays to understand that fewer trades you enter into the better are the chances that you can realize a handsome profit. It is more important that you concentrate on getting things right rather than indulging in quantity trading. Smart Forex operators earn money from doing the right things well and avoiding doing the bad things. In fact, the more successful traders earn high amounts of money from doing only limited amount of trades.
A healthy appetite for risk is essential to succeeding with Forex and so you have to learn how and when to take risks which however must be judiciously taken and which should not deteriorate into starting to gamble in the hope that you will make a major killing. At the very least a person that is averse to taking risks must abstain from doing Forex deals.
For those people that do small Forex trades it is not a good idea to branch out because it is in fact necessary that they concentrate and focus on their limited trades instead of trying to expand their dealings without having already tasted success.
You can also succeed with Forex by setting yourself realistic targets. The more realistic you are the better are the chances that you will be able to work hard enough to realize your objectives. You should decide to engage you in Forex and then give your all to succeeding and also keep in mind that your targets are not too farfetched or unrealistic.
With these tips in mind you should get started with Forex and bear in mind also that to be successful you will need to learn how to focus your efforts on the best trades that should be used with best odds of succeeding. Weigh your options and set realistic targets and then do your best to realize a profit.
The tip is based on the 80 - 20 rule which is used in a wide variety of areas of life for example, in business it says 80% of your profits will normally come from just 20% of your clients. In Forex terms it means - 80% of your overall profits will come from just 20% of your trades.
The reality is that most Forex traders take far too many trades, if they cut back on their trading frequency and only hit high odds trades their profits will increase dramatically.
They hold the following beliefs which are simply not true
- They can make money by scalping or day trading
These short term trades are low odds trades in fact - the odds are you will lose, as you are trading the market noise.
- They need to be in the market just in case they miss a move
If course this is rubbish, you can spot a move and enter when the time is right!
- The harder the work and the more trades they make the more money they will make
The work ethic doesn't apply in Forex; many people think with effort they can force money from the market and they lose.
Be Smart and Aim for 100% Annual Profits
I know traders that trade less than once a month yet still turn in triple digit annual profits! There not interested in working hard or trading all the time, their interested in making money and that means hitting the high odds trades and milking them for all their worth. These traders make a lot of money, not by working hard but working smart.
Less is More Hit the Big Trends
The high odds trades don't come around every day and you need to wait for them but when they do, they will give you high odds set ups, greater chances of success with less work and that is something all Forex traders want!
Trading Forex is a very difficult and risky task. But given the huge amount of profits available in this market, people are flooding it on a daily basis with the aim of making some extra or full income from Trading Forex. With the financial crises around, and people loosing their jobs, some folks always think Forex trading can be a save heaven for them. But you should always take special care when getting in to such markets because: where there are big profits to be made, there is always the possibility of big losses as well.
In any efficient economy, there would always be a supply to every demand. Given the complexity involved in trading in the Forex markets, there are quite a number of people who don't know enough about Foreign exchange markets but are interested in trading foreign currencies. Special software called Forex robots have been designed which could greatly reduce this complicated process involved in Forex trading.
Most of this software is called Forex robots, meaning that they are capable of instructing you exactly on what to do in what circumstance. Others may even automatically do it do it for you. For example, the robot may instruct its user to sell a particular currency, and buy another currency based on the market data analysis made.
While these robots could be right in most cases depending on the mark, it is good to take note that they are not always correct. There are just a software and like any other software, their output depends on their input. Garbage in, garbage out. This simply means that you may loose so much money if you don't a good robot that that has been effectively designed to take most of the parameters into account. The Forex market is actually beyond the reasoning scope of even a Forex robot. That is why no one can say with certainty that they can trade Forex without some losses here and there.
Since Forex indicators have been programmed to run on some given pre- market indicators which have been judge by experts as key indicators preceding key events, it can be a wise idea to take a look at them if we intend to trade this very liquid market.
Options come in two different flavors. Call options give the contract holder the right to buy the currency. Put options give the contract holder the right to sell the currency to someone else.
When the contract expires the actual value of the options is whatever the holder will get by actually exercising the contract. If the holder will gain nothing by exercising the option then the actual value of the option is zero. The value of the option at any other time during the contract is what is called the intrinsic value, that is the value if the holder were to exercise the option at that time.
The intrinsic value is partially based on the set price of the contract, which is also known as the "strike price". A call option has an intrinsic value if the current price of the currency is higher than the strike price. This would allow the contract holder to buy the currency at less than the current value and then re-sell it for a profit. A put option has an intrinsic value if the current price is less than the strike price of the option.
Any time an option has a positive intrinsic value it is said to be "in the money" if the intrinsic value is negative then the option is considered to be "out of the money". It can also have a value of zero which means that the current price is the same as the strike price in which case it is considered to be "a the money". Options should only be exercised when they are "in the money".
There are complicated formulas used to calculate the intrinsic value of an option, these formulas take into consideration both the current price as well as the time value. The time value is calculated based on the market conditions, including things like interest rates on both currencies as well as the time left in the contract. The pricing of options is delicate; they must be low enough to attract buyers but also high enough to attract the sellers as well.
Options are primarily used to minimize risk in FOREX trades. They help to protect against unexpected fluctuations in the market. When you buy an option your potential loss is limited to the price of the option. When you sell options your potential loss can be significantly higher. The seller gains the premium for selling the option but depending on how the market moves their loss could be unlimited.
As a hedging tool, there are many different types of options available. They are often used to minimize the potential for loss due to fluctuations in the foreign exchange market by companies that trade overseas.
In the FOREX market there is a special option known as a digital option. A digital option pays a specified amount at expiration if certain criteria are met. If the criteria are not met there is no payment.
To us a digital option the trader must first decide which way the market is moving. They then decide on a payoff amount if the market moves as expected within a certain time frame. Using this information they can then calculate the price of the digital option.
For example:
The price of the euro is currently trading at about 1.2400 and you expect it to rise to 1.2800 within 3 months. You decide to buy a put digital option with a payoff of $5000. The cost of the option is $800.
If at the end of the 3 months the euro is more than 1.2800 you get $5000. If the price is less, you lose $800.
Options can be a valuable trading tool for all FOREX traders.
Both our entry and exit were within 10 pips of the high and the low respectively. Feel free to surf the entire web and see how many traders can boast that type of success.
Certainly, there won't be many. As I mention below, most managed funds (you know, the ones that the pros handle) have been losing at a remarkable pace over the last month or so.
OK, so now to the trading.
We had another great trading night last night. Based on the resistance and support levels we discussed last night we entered our trades @ 1.7460, and we were able to close the trades for 120 pips @ 1.7420 and 1.7380.
Utilizing the proper money management and cushioning technique taught in the trading in Black and White trading course to we were able to pick a safe yet successful entry point, and a safe stop loss.
Then looking at support levels we chose perfect profit targets, exiting our large trade just two pips above the daily low. It is very hard to get better than that.
This has been an active region for trading the last couple of months as Cable continues to trade in the tight range from 1.7230 up to 1.7600 and back down again.
Tonight we are trading around 1.7425, just 15 pips below yesterdays close. We will once again look to the resistance range with around the 1.7470 level. This range goes all the way to 1.7500. As far as support for our potential profit target we will be following what happens to price action around the 1.7380 range again tonight. While most of the managed funds and signal services have been getting crushed over the past few weeks, we are starting off yet another winning week.
If you want to start experiencing winning weeks like the ones or traders have been having, take a look at our forex trading course.
We find these support and resistance levels using a set of technical indicators and other variables that we have found to be most successful for us. We use several other indicators and a variety of technical analysis techniques to enter and exit all of our trades. Every trader will have a different combination of indicators that makes the most sense to them. Learn how to develop your own successful Forex Trading style with our Elite Forex Trading Course.
FOREX markets turn over trillions of dollars per day and are the world’s biggest investment medium.
In recent years, FOREX trading systems using technical analysis to predict trend changes have become increasingly popular as a way of catching the big profitable trends.
Catching the Longer Term Trends for Big Profits
The longer-term trends in FOREX markets mirror the underlying health of the economy. As periods of expansion and contraction take years, so do currency trends and a good FOREX trading system can help you lock into, and profit from, these trends.
When picking a currency to trade, it is important to have good long-term trends and liquidity.
Good major currencies to trade include the US Dollar, Swiss Franc, Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, and Canadian Dollar.
FOREX trading systems remove the emotional component from trading, which is the major reason the majority of traders lose.
Removing the Emotion from Trading with Systems
One of the best starting points on the effect that emotions have in trading, are the works of legendary trader W. D Gann, whose works on the subject are essential reading.
Other authors worth reading are: Edwin Lefeurve, Jake Bernstein, Larry Williams, Ken Roberts, Van Tharpe and Jack Shwager whose book “Market Wizards & The New Market Wizards” interviews some of the top traders of all time, including the legendary “turtles”.
FOREX Trading Systems for Profit
The developments in computer software, and the growth of the Internet, have seen system trading reach a wider audience than ever before.
Packages such as Tradestation, Supercharts and Omni trader, allow traders to build and back test systems, using technical indicators such as stochastics, Bollinger bands, moving averages, RSI etc., to realistically see how the system would have performed in the markets over time.
Traders who do not have the time, or inclination, to develop their own FOREX Trading systems, can buy a variety of systems off the shelf.
What Makes A Successful FOREX Trading System?
If you are buying a FOREX trading system from a vendor, there are several things to consider:
1. Do you want to be a day trader, or a longer-term trader? You need to pick a system that suits your personality.
2. Do you want to have any manual input into the system, or do you want it to make all the decisions for you?
3. Do you want to trade just one currency, or a spread? Trading one currency can increase the profit potential, but keep in mind that it can also increase the risk.
4. What is the logic of the system? It is a fact, that if you understand the system and its logic, you will have more confidence in it, than if you buy a black box system where the logic concealed.
5. What is the profit potential and what are the drawdowns? The important point here is that any system will have periods of drawdown or losses, and you need to be able to have the confidence to follow the system through good periods and bad. Generally, the bigger the profit potential, the bigger the drawdowns tend to be.
When you are buying from a vendor, check out their experience, record of accomplishment, customer support etc., and make sure you are comfortable with them.
Many traders and novices are looking to make money in Forex, however only 5% of Forex traders ever make a dime. The question then becomes what are the 5% that are making money in Forex doing that the other 95% are not.
The truth is anyone can make money in Forex as long as they educate themselves and learn how the market reacts. Trades can use key support and resistance zones for entry and exits within the market, however there is another key component that will help determine price movement and that is pivot points. Pivot points help determine where price is going as well as reversals in trends.
If one knew the range parameters used by floor traders then one may have a handle on significant areas where off floor and position traders may take over the market. Determining key support and resistance zones coupled with pivot points is essential to forecasting price movement in the Forex. Even if you are not a day trader, knowing the key pivot point, support and resistance points can help the short term trader and intermediate positional trader to identify potential entry points and stop loss levels.
Getting into a trade near key support and resistance zones is a double edged sword. Pivot points can be seen as both dangerous and a great opportunity to enter a trade. Stop orders to enter at pivot points are readily whipsawed by the local market and noise, meaning price may bounce up and down around pivot points before heading in one direction. The question then becomes how are pivot points used to determine a good entry and exit point in the market?
Pivot points can be used in two ways. The first way is for determining overall market trend: if the pivot point price is broken in an upward movement, then the market is bullish, and vice versa. Keep in mind, however, that pivot points are short-term trend indicators, useful for only one day until they need to be recalculated. The second method is to use pivot point price levels to enter and exit the markets. For example, a trader might put in a limit order to buy 100 shares if the price breaks a resistance level. Alternatively, a trader might set a stop-loss for his active trade if a support level is broken.
Calculating pivot points is not an easy task. There are some really great training courses online that will train you on how to trade using pivot points as well as calculate them for you and teach you how to use them in a real-time.
Trade exists for many reasons. It can be due to specialization and division of labor. Trade exists between regions because different regions have a comparative advantage in the production of some tradable commodity, or because different regions' size helps getting benefits of mass production.
History of Trade:
Trade originated in prehistoric times. It was the main facility of prehistoric people, who bartered goods and services from each other when modern money was never even thought of. Peter Watson dates the history of long-distance commerce from circa 150,000 years ago.
Trade is believed to have taken place throughout much of recorded human history. Materials used for the creation of jewelry were traded with Egypt since 3000 BC. Long-distance trade routes first appeared in the 3rd millennium BC, by the Sumerians in Mesopotamia when they traded with the Harappan civilization of the Indus Valley. Trading is greatly important to the global economy. From the very beginning of Greek civilization to the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, a financially worthwhile trade brought valuable spice to Europe from the Far East, including China.
The fall of the Roman Empire, and the succeeding Dark Ages brought insecurity to Western Europe and a near end of the trade network. However some trade did occur, the Radhanites were a medieval group of Jewish merchants who traded between the Christians in Europe and the Muslims of the Near East.
The Sogdians ruled the East-West trade route known as the Silk Road from the end 4th century AD to the 8th century AD.
The Vikings and Varangians also traded from the 8th to the 11th century as they sailed from and to Scandinavia. Vikings sailed to Western Europe, while Varangians to Russia.
Vasco da Gama restarted the European Spice trade in 1498. Earlier to his sailing around Africa, the flow of spice into Europe was controlled by Islamic powers, especially Egypt. The spice trade was of major economic importance and helped encourage the Age of Exploration. Spices brought to Europe from distant lands were some of the most valuable commodities for their weight, sometimes rivaling gold.
In the 16th century, Holland was the centre of free trade, imposing no exchange controls, and advocating the free movement of goods.
In 1776, Adam Smith published the paper “An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations”. This paper criticized Mercantilism, and argued that economic specialization could benefit nations just as much as firms. Since that time the division of labor was restricted by the size of the market, he said that countries having access to larger markets would be able to divide labor more efficiently and thereby become more productive.
The Great Depression was a major economic collapse that ran from 1929 to the late 1930s. There was a great setback in trade and other economic indicators during this period.
The lack of free trade was considered by many as a root cause of the depression. Only during the World War II the recession ended in United States.
History of Money:
The first instances of money were objects with fundamental value are called commodity money and includes any commonly-available commodity that has intrinsic value; historical examples include rare seashells, whale's teeth, and cattle. In medieval Iraq, bread was used as an early form of money.
Roman denarius Currency was introduced as a standardized money to facilitate a wider exchange of goods and services. This first stage of currency metals were used to represent stored value.
As the system of commodity money evolved in many instances it then became representative money.
Current Trends:
Doha round
The Doha round of World Trade Organization negotiations aims to lower barriers to trade around the world, focusing on making trade fairer for developing countries. Talks have been hung over a divide between the rich, developed countries, and the major developing countries. Agricultural subsidies are the most significant issue upon which agreement has been hardest to negotiate. By contrast, there was much agreement on trade facilitation and capacity building.
The Doha round began in Doha, Qatar, and negotiations has subsequently continued in: Cancún, Mexico; Geneva, Switzerland; and Paris, France and Hong Kong.
International organizations
European Common Market
GATT = General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
G8
IMF = International Monetary Fund
OPEC = Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries
First let's look at the background to the experiment.
Richard Dennis believed that everything about trading could be specifically learned and his partner Richard Erkhard disagreed, so Dennis set out to prove his point.
He collected a diverse group together - of all ages, both sexes and varying levels of education. The group contained a Boy fresh from school, a female auditor, a security guard an actor and a couple of professional card players, to name a few.
Dennis then set about teaching them a simple method and the discipline to trade the method. After 14 days they were all set to trade and they started and made him over $100 million dollars and many of them still trade today.
So what was their secret?
The answer is Dennis taught them a simple method but he taught them to have confidence in what they were doing so they would have the discipline to follow their method through periods of losses to achieve long term forex trading success.
What can you learn from the turtles?
The first point is anyone can learn to trade, if they have the right forex education, as forex trading is a learned skill.
Secondly, your method does not need to be complicated - but you need to have confidence in it. Trading is as much in the mind as it is in your method.
If you keep your method simple, you are more likely to understand it and be able to execute it with discipline furthermore, a simple method will tend to work better than a complicated one in the brutal world of trading, as there are fewer elements to break.
One of the keys to the turtles success was their money management techniques. This is a neglected area for many forex traders and most do it simply as an after thought. If you want to win at forex trading, you need to operate a rigorous and well thought out money management plan.
Could you be successful?
Yes - anyone can, you may not be as successful as the group above - but you can achieve currency trading success as it's a learned skill.
Today, many traders think they can simply buy success and there is a huge industry in selling systems with simulated track records that greedy traders buy and of course they don't win.
You don't buy success for a few hundred dollars and no effort!
Not only are most of the trading systems junk - but any trader must learn that success comes from within.
Having a successful method is essential - but so to is having the confidence and discipline to follow it - if you don't have discipline to follow your method you don't have one at all.
Dennis made sure when he taught them that they understood what they were doing so they could have confidence and discipline to follow their plan.
In forex trading mindset is just as important as knowledge.
Forex trading is not a walk in the park and you wouldn't expect it to be, with the rewards on offer but if you have a desire to succeed and you a willingness to acquire the right knowledge and adopt the right mindset you can win.
Forex trading offers limitless opportunities for those traders willing to put in the time and effort to learn a method they can have confidence in and follow with discipline.
Sounds simple?
In essence it is - but you must accept you are in charge of your own financial destiny and you must work smart to win.
Understand the above and you can enjoy currency trading success.
The first point to keep in mind is:
Forex technical analysis is a game of odds not of certainties, so forget about predicting with scientific accuracy, no one can achieve that – but if you understand the following equation, you can make big forex profits:
Fundamentals + Investor Psychology = Price
It is a fact that the fundamentals have an influence on price – all investors have the facts at their disposal but they see them in their own way and this mass of millions of people determines forex prices.
Investor psychology
Human psychology is constant and never changes.
Traders will always be influenced by emotion and these emotions of greed and fear, will push prices to far away from fair value and these price spikes are easy to see on forex charts.
The important point to keep in mind is that investor psychology repeats - and so do chart patterns.
Seeing the Whole Picture
Another very important point to keep in mind with forex technical analysis is that it studies the fundamentals.
All it does is simply assume that in today’s world of instant communications, they show up straight way in price action.
Studying forex charts however does something more:
It studies how investors perceive the fundamentals.
Its is not enough to simply look at the facts, as we all draw our own conclusions from what we see and emotions ensure that investors don’t act logically – they push prices to far ( either up or down) based upon their emotions.
Studying forex charts gives you the whole picture - it reflects the fundamentals and more importantly, how investors perceive them.
When using forex charts you don’t care how and why prices move, you simply look at the reality of price and try and make profits from the moves.
It sounds simple as a concept and it is - but it’s extremely powerful and if you incorporate it in your forex trading system, you can make big profits by trading when the odds are on your side.
Forex Technical Analysis Is Time Efficient
Using forex technical analysis is time efficient, you are studying price and don’t need to make assumptions of where they may go based upon the news – you can see the price as it is and simply trade the truth.
Many traders continually look at news and try and trade off it – but this is hard - the fundamentals are discounted instantly and you have very little chance of winning. Furthermore, if you look at the opinion of others your emotions get involved and any trader who lets emotions dictate their forex trading strategy, is destined to lose
Trading forex charts lets you see the reality as it is – no opinions or guessing and that gives you a huge advantage when trading for profits.
Forex Charting is An Art
Of course, all people use forex charts in different ways and it’s an art not a science.
It is similar to being a ships captain – use your charts correctly and you can get from A – B safely and earn a living; use your charts in the wrong way and you will hit the rocks and drown.
There are many myths perpetrated about using forex charts and if fall victim to them and you will lose.
The good news is anyone can become a successful forex chartist and if you follow basic rules, you can trade with the odds on your side and execute your forex trading signals correctly and win.
If 95% of novice currency traders lose, why should you succeed at FOREX Trading?
Think about it carefully, the vast majority of traders get wiped and that’s a proven fact.
Will you lose? If You Believe the Following You Will!
If you want to see if you are going to lose consider the following questions and then we will give you some advice on how to win at online currency trading:
Firstly if you hold these views you will lose:
1. You can make money day trading
Try it and find out. You will lose and lose quickly – more novice traders try day trading than any other method, but it’s doomed to failure as you can never get the odds on your side – period.
2. You can buy success
Don’t all those e-books look enticing on the net?
Scalp 15 – 20 pips a day, make $2,000 dollars a month guaranteed trade with 80% success etc
All for a few hundred dollars!
Of course, these people make their money selling courses NOT trading so they win and you lose.
There is a small minority of FOREX education that you can buy that is worth the money, but most of the so called wisdom is available free on the net and you don’t have to buy it.
Always ask your self the question:
If their that good at trading why do they need to sell advice?
3. You can trade by listening to the news
Many people watch the news and there is plenty of it about.
It’s well thought out, well presented, in many cases very convincing and dead wrong and will help you lose.
Why?
Because news is stories these people are giving you their view (fair enough) but their not traders.
An economist can always give you great arguments for why something has happened, but explaining what is going to happen, is a completely different ball game.
4. You don’t like risk
Many novice traders try so hard to restrict risk they create it – that’s why many are attracted to FOREX day trading.
They tend to place stops to close and give themselves no chance of winning.
If you don’t like risk do something else.
5. What’s your edge?
Ask yourself this question before you trade and think carefully about it.
Why should you win when 95% of traders lose – what’s your advantage?
As we have seen its none of the points discussed above!
If you can’t answer the above question, you don’t have one and odds are you will lose all your money.
Any positive advice?
Yes, the good news is anyone can make money trading FOREX as everything about it can be specifically learned.
What you need to do is accept you are going to do it on your own – no one else can help you, only you can give yourself success.
Then learn the right knowledge.
FOREX trading is actually quite simple but requires a different mindset to other activities; you must acquire the right knowledge and the mindset to win.
FOREX Trading is all about working smart, not working hard and if you learn FOREX trading the right way, you can make a lot of money.
We don’t have to time to go through the above in more detail here but we will cover the mindset to win and the education you need to win in part 2 of this article.
Here we will show you where to get the best forex advice for free and turn you into a profitable trader.
A common error
A common error made by many novice forex traders is to think that they can buy a system or an e-book from a guru for $100 or so and buy success.
Now, while there is some good forex advice sold on the net, the bulk of it is not worth the money.
Most of it is sold by salesmen (who have never traded) or failed brokers who cant trade and decide they may as well sell advice.
It is common sense that you cannot buy forex success for $100 or so, as if the forex advice worked then it would not be sold.
A quick way to decide if sold forex advice is worth your hard cash is to ask for a real time track record of real money made in the markets.
After that look for a money back guarantee.
If you don’t get both the above don’t buy it.
The reason you should do it on your own is that if you get your own forex advice and study it you will have confidence in it.
This means you will be more likely to follow it with discipline when you come to trade it.
It is far harder to follow someone else’s advice with discipline than your own, as you will always understand your own better.
The internet has all the information you need for free and here are some topics to look up and study
1. Technical analysis
Everything you need to know can be found on the net from advantages to the chart formations.
2. Technical indicators
You will know how to draw charts and what the formations mean from Point 1. Now you need some timing indicators.
Good ones to look up are: Bollinger bands, stochastics, moving averages, RSI and MACD. By all means look up others but the above are the ones we find most useful for entering a market
Go to a free chart service such as futuresource.com and look at them on some live charts.
3. Breakouts
Now you have looked at some charts and some indicators to help you identify and enter trends you need a methodology.
Perhaps the easiest methodology to use is a breakout method.
Look it up.
It’s easy to understand and easy to implement and it works.
4. Putting it altogether.
With the forex advice you have you can build a simple system to trade.
Base the system on breakouts and use chart support and resistance to spot profitable trading set ups.
You can then experiment with various technical indicators to help you enter breakouts.
Our own personal way of trading uses chart support and resistance to set up trades.
We then define entry with stohastics (a momentum indicator) and RSI which is an indication of the strength of the price and that’s it.
There is a lot of forex advice on the net that makes forex trading more difficult than it really is.
In fact, anyone with the free forex advice on the net can build test and implement a system based upon sound logic.
Keep in mind
The majority of traders fail because they lack discipline.
This comes from the fact that they don’t have confidence in their system and throw in the towel as soon as they have a few losses.
By taking some time to build your own system, you will have confidence in it and will be more able to follow it with discipline.
The fact is all the forex advice you need to build and trade a system for yourself is free.
If you put in the time and effort your study will be handsomely rewarded.

The forex trade is carried out for profits that can be gained by buying and selling of the currencies. Currencies are always bought and sold in pairs. Let us take an example to clarify the forex deal
A trader trades in Euros/ Us Dollars. (All figures are samples only) He purchases 10,000 Euros on Jan 1 when the EUR/USD rate is .9600. Then he sells these Euros at the market rate of 1.1800. On August 1. Therefore he gets 11,800 USD. Thereby making a cool forex transaction profit of USD 2200.
Since all currencies are bought and sold in pairs, one needs to decide the pair of currency that you would like to do your currency transactions in. In this example EUR is the base currency and the USD is called the quote or the counter currency. If you have bought Euros (simultaneously selling dollars), then you have based your decision on the fact that Euros may appreciate in the future. Therefore by selling Euros back into dollars you would be getting more dollars and thus making a profit.
What is Forex or Foreign Exchange: It is the largest financial market in the world, with a volume of more than $1.5 trillion daily, dealing in currencies. Unlike other financial markets, the Forex market has no physical location, no central exchange. It operates through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individuals trading one currency for another.
What about Forecasting: Predicting current and future market trends using existing data and facts. Analysts rely on technical and fundamental statistics to predict the directions of the economy, stock market and individual securities.
For those who trade using the Forex, or foreign currency exchange, knowing how to forecast the Forex can make the difference between trading successfully and losing money. When you begin learning about Forex trading, it is vital that you understand how to forecast the Forex trading market.
There are a few methods that are used when forecasting the Forex. Each system is used to understand how the Forex works and how the fluctuations in the market can affect traders and currency rates. The two methods that are most often used are called technical analysis and fundamental analysis. Both methods differ in their own ways, but each one can help the Forex trader understand how the rates are affecting the currency trade. Most of the time, experienced traders and brokers know each method and use a mixture of the two to trade on the Forex.

Forex signals are sent by a forex firm to their subscribers in order to buy and sell currencies. These signals are called entry and exit signals for the forex dealers. The firms, which send this forex signal, do so after tedious and meticulous research and analysis into the currencies that their dealers are trading in. For example a firm may send the entry and exit signals at designated time frames in real time. These will remain valid for a short period only after which they are going to be different.
Let's say that there is a forex trading company say Acme Forex traders who send entry and exit signals to their clients in the following way
The first signal is provided to the trader at 08:30, and this signal is going to remain actual till 12.30
The trader will receive the second signal at 12.30, which would remain actual till 16.30.
The last signal would be sent to the trader at 16.30.
The transactions are given according to GMT. Please adjust for local time changes. The transaction shall be calculated till the signal is actual. The charges would be $300 per month per trader.
Forex dealers and experts provide forex-trading information and data to both institutional clients and individual investors and provide these kind of signals. Investors like to subscribe to credit worthy forex dealers / companies since their information and data would be genuine and more accurate. In fact many forex dealers would kill to get information before the rest of the market gets the same information. As forex dealing is a very competitive business.
These signals or forex indications are given to the forex dealers through the forex trading platform or hub. The signals or forex indicators are the specific entry and exit strategies. Therefore when you enter a currency trade buying currencies at lower price and then selling at higher price, you book a profit. currency pair. For example the forex dealer is trading in GBP/USD. The rate is for GBP/USD is .9800 . If you expect that Euro is likely to go up in the future you would buy the Euros today to sell them off at a later date thereby booking a profit. If you expect the dollars to appreciate, then you would buy the dollars selling them off at a later date to book profits.
Most forex dealers will get the information via email or straight on their computer screens. It is then up to the forex dealers to decide whether they want to sell / buy / hold the currencies till further information is given to them.
Those who contribute in giving the information on currency dealing are hedge managers, foreign exchange dealers located in the major financial markets of the world, professional stock brokers, finance managers and a host of other finance professionals. They make it their business to collect, analyze and disseminate information in such a way, that can be used by forex dealers to buy / sell / hold the forex.
Therefore the companies take extreme care to send the forex signals for the currency dealers.
Access to foreign exchange (forex), the most extensive market on the planet, is generally through an intermediary known as a forex broker. Similar to a stock broker, these agents can also provide advice on forex trading strategies. This advice to clients often extends to technical analysis and research approaches designed to improve client forex trading performance.
Financial institutions are generally the most influential in the forex market through high-volume, large-value forex currency transactions. Historically, banks enjoyed monopolistic access to the forex markets, but through the Internet, any forex speculator can also enjoy 24 hour access to the market via a forex broker.
Secure web connections today allow many forex traders to work from home, where ready access to news and other technical advice informs decisions on what forex positions to take. Similar moves are being made by stock brokers, who are also moving out of banks and other traditional institutions.
Your needs in the market will influence your choice of forex broker. Online forex brokerage firms, known as houses, provide those new to the forex market with detailed research, advice and simulators to learn how to use their forex trading tools. The experienced online forex trader is catered to by other broking houses, with in-depth advice, but less focus on forex trading instruction based on the assumption that you are familiar with the forex market. To make an informed choice, it is advisable to trial several differing online forex broking houses and their trading tools to find the best fit for your needs.

A lot of people have been 'burnt' from scam operations on the Internet. Their sites may look so perfectly legitimate that you doubt whether they would have gone through all that trouble building a trading platform just to steal your money. Beware.
The first thing I look for is the geographical location of the broker. If I find that they are based in a country where the financial industry is, in my opinion, relatively unregulated and under-developed, I quickly forgo signing up. This is terrible news for honest brokers in those countries, but your job as a trader is to protect your capital. If you lose that, then you cannot trade. The onus is on them to convince you that they will do the right thing by you as an investor.
I started out with an Australian broker. Currently I am using an American one. I have not tried UK-based brokers but the British financial industry is one of the best. Companies that are based in countries such as Japan , Germany and France are probably just as good too, if their website speaks your language.
Notice any license numbers that they may have registered with regulatory bodies that act like government watchdogs who oversee the finance and investments industries. These are organisations that impose strict rules to safeguard your investment. Some of these rules may include the requirement that brokers segregate all customer funds from the operational funds of the business. Your money is required to be put in highly-reputable banks and the funds are only withdrawn from these accounts upon specific withdrawal requests.
Take note that there are some fake regulatory bodies being thrown around in cyber-space as well. Take a look at how long they have been operating for. Try and search out any reviews or comments made about them. See if you can find forums where traders have discussions about their brokers.
Below is a list of things to keep in mind to help you avoid being a victim of a scam:
Stay Away From Opportunities That Sound Too Good To Be True
There are people who may have just acquired a large amount of money just and recently are the same and are shopping around for safe investment vehicles. These may include retirees who have access to their retirement funds. It is understandable why retirees would be drawn to 'high-return, low-risk investments'. This is also what makes them very vulnerable. If you identify yourself to be one of these people, be careful. A lot of deceitful characters are after your money. Furthermore, only allocate a tiny amount of your money to trading until you can start growing it. Not all people can trade successfully, so it is a venture you should take on haphazardly. It is your life savings at risk.
Avoid Individuals Or Organizations Who Claim To Predict Or Guarantee Large Profits
Any form of trading is hard. Trading currencies is no different. Be wary of statements that make it sound easy. Statements like:
"Whether the market moves up or down, in the currency market you will make a profit";
"Make $1000 per week, every week";
"We are out-performing 90% of domestic investments";
"You'll make returns of 70% a year";
"Here is a no-risk strategy".
If they could make such returns, why would they even bother letting you know about it.
Be Wary Of Companies Who Downplay Investment Risks
Hold your wallet tight and zip up your purse when companies say that written risk disclosure agreements are routine formalities imposed by the government. Watch out for statements like:
"With a $10,000 deposit, the maximum you can lose is $200 to $250 per day";
" We promise to recover any losses you have ".
Be Wary Of Companies That Claim To Trade In The 'Interbank Market'
Do not believe it when some people say that they have access to the 'Interbank market' or that they can give you access to trade in that market because that's where bargain prices can be obtained. This is not true. The 'interbank market' is not a place, it is not a physical building. It is simply a loose network of currency transactions that are negotiated between big financial institutions and other large companies.
Ethnic Minorities Are Often Targeted
Ethnic newspapers and television 'infomercials' are sometimes used to attract Russian, Chinese and Indian minorities. Sometimes these ads offer so-called 'job opportunities for account executives to trade foreign currencies', whereby the recruited 'account executive' is expected to use his own money to trade currencies and would often times be encouraged to recruit members like their friends and family to do the same.
Seek Out The Company's Background
Check any information you receive to be sure that the company is who they claim to be. If at all possible, try and get the background of the people operating the company. Do not rely solely on oral statements and promises made by the company's employees.
If You Are In Doubt, It Is Not Worth Risking Your Money
If after trying to solicit information and at the end of it all, you are still in doubt about the credentials of a particular company, my suggestion is to start looking elsewhere.
You may find further information by contacting government 'watchdogs' because they keep up to date with trends and reports regarding scams and other fraudulent activities. Please check the resource section of this site for the information of organizations that regulate the securities industry, sorted by country. There is also a list of brokers that you may want to look at.
